The Sabine Series 2/7: Rachel/Mom
(THE SABINE SERIES 2/7: Rachel/Mom)
I never knew how many lives Sabine would touch…LITERALLY! From very early on, I felt Sabine possessed magic within her, but I’m also pretty aware that I’m super biased. I knew that magic wasn’t just a figment of my imagination the first time I actually saw it! Sabine was just a little baby and I was carrying her around in a backpack carrier. We were walking around downtown Austin, just exploring. We were passing by many different people. Suddenly, I felt a little tug from behind me, like I got caught on something. When I turned around, Sabine had her arm outstretched and there was a person just standing there with a shocked look on their face.
Me: “Did she reach out and touch you?”
Stranger: “Yes.”
Me: “Sorry about that! She does that sometimes.”
Stranger: (with hand on area that Sabine touched) “It’s totally ok! I REALLY needed that…”
This kept happening. At first, I thought Sabine was just touching everyone, but it turns out, she was being super selective! It’s like she knew; like she had this sense of who needed an extra loving touch.
Several years later, when she was about 5 or 6, my husband and I were working really hard on encouraging her to do more on her own. She’s always been so petite so people had a tendency to either carry her or hold her in their laps. We tried to discourage that. One afternoon, while on a play date, Sabine crawled into one of the mom’s laps (she was a friend of mine). I tried to get Sabine to stand up, but my friend just hugged her close and said, “Has it ever occurred to you that Sabine is magic; that she possesses a healing energy and people want/need her near?” I had always felt it; but I finally got confirmation that other people felt it too.
