The River Series 6/11: Billie/Grandma

River loves people and he has a captivating smile and demeanor. I had taken him to a speech therapy appointment. When we entered the office waiting room, River immediately went to the receptionist and said, “Hello. How are you today?” She said she was doing well with a responsive smile. River said, “I am River, and I am here.” We sat down and a woman entered the waiting room. River immediately spoke up, “Hi! How are you today?” She answered, “Good. Thank you,” and smiled. River’s name was called and he left for his therapy. When he finished and came back into the waiting room, he saw me and smiled. We proceeded to leave and as we walked out the door, he turned back looked at the receptionist and said, “I forgot. Bye!” He looked at the woman sitting opposite the receptionist’s desk and said, “Bye! Have a good day.” All of us grown-ups smiled. He had cheered us up and surely we felt his genuine care for us. It makes me smile still when I think about that afternoon with River.
