The Joel Series 2/5: Rosa, Mom

One of my favorite memories of Joel is when he participated in a triathlon. He had to quickly change from his swimming clothing into dry clothes for the race part but Joel didn’t want help. He put on his regular shorts instead of his basketball shorts so they fit him too loose without his belt. He ran the race with all his might but his shorts did not make it to the finish line. He couldn’t care less though. Joel was so happy to participate and finish the race. He was able to assert his independence regardless of the outcome, but that’s the dignity of risk.
