The Colin Series 2/5: Kelly, Mom

(THE COLIN SERIES 2/5: Kelly, Mom)

After receiving a prenatal diagnosis that my baby boy would be born with Down syndrome so many questions went through my mind, but I knew everything would be just fine. Here we are nine years later and I get to watch this boy live his best life. Everything I questioned suddenly didn’t matter anymore. Colin and I have so many engaging conversations, we fully understand each other. Colin contributes so much to our family. He takes out the recycling and garbage, washes dishes, empties the dishwasher and makes his bed. He can do all that and much more. I am not a perfect mom, but I am doing a good job raising a beautiful and capable human.

Colin can sense emotions. We had some close loved ones pass away in the last few years, and it was a difficult time for our family. Colin knew when I was feeling sad and knew exactly how to cheer me up. He would come right up to me and say, “Mom, it’s ok. I love you.” Then he would give me a big hug and a kiss. Colin can turn any bad day into a good one. He makes life so much better. Colin is pure love and joy. He is adored by so many people and lights up every room he enters.
