"I had been dating Dan, Chris’s brother, for a few months when he brought me home to meet his family. Until that day I had never met a person with Down syndrome. Dan didn’t tell me his brother had Down syndrome. I remember going home and telling my mom & dad, ‘I think he has Down syndrome but I’m not sure.’ Later when I confirmed with Dan that Christorpher does have Down syndrome I asked him why he didn’t tell me and he said it was because he wanted me to get to know him for who he was. Eight years later after Dan and I got married, anytime someone would ask Chris about his three sisters he would correct them and say, ‘I have four sisters.’ I’m so glad Dan gave me the opportunity to know Chris for who he is because he has always accepted and loved me for who I am."
