The Micah Series 4/5: Linda/Grandma
(The Micah Series 4/5: Linda/Grandma)
"My husband and I have purchased motorized power cars for all of our grandsons as youngsters, so we figured, why not get one for Micah. When he was 5, he got the little power wheels SUV. He hopped on and drove like a speed racer, just like his brothers had. When he outgrew it, we decided to up the model. We got Micah a small gas powered quad with a stop button that we controlled remotely. At first he was apprehensive about a quad that actually made noise and moved faster, but his brothers cheered him on. The boys rode around our acre field, making a track from all the laps they did. It took some convincing, but in true Micah fashion, nothing stopped him. He was born to drive it. This quad went faster, and turned way different than the toy car. Using the gas, the brakes, and steering at the same time is difficult for anyone, and to be honest we didn't expect him to be able to do it. But our Micah rode that quad so much that he burnt the engine out twice, and the tires had been replaced too many times to count.
My daughter (his mom) would post videos of Micah on his little quad, with smoke blowing out the back because the engine was ready to die for good. A group of her friends got together and shared the need for Micah to get a “Big Boy” quad. Friends, family and strangers pitched in and surprised Micah with an actual Yamaha Quad, that he affectionately calls the Green Machine. It's big, it's fast, and it is bright green, with a matching helmet. Again, Micah was hesitant at first, and we were unsure of this big jump, but he did it and drove that quad around the track. Micah has gained more confidence than ever, and rides like a pro.. seriously like a pro. He out-drives his brothers and chases anyone in his way. I see his ability every time he hops on that quad and speeds off.. and yes, its still a little scary for this Grandma to watch the daredevil in action."
