The Freddie Series 2/5: Joanne, Mom
(THE FREDDIE SERIES 2/5: Joanne, Mom)
I never looked at stubbornness as being a strength until Freddie came into the world. From struggling to breathe when he was first born, to being diagnosed with Leukemia at just 2.5 years old. Stubbornness has been his friend. I've "heard" that the stubborn gene likes to hide out in that 3rd copy of the 21st chromosome. I'm sure one day being stubborn may cause a riff in his day, but for the first 6 years of his life he has used it to fuel his strength.
I look at the world differently since Freddie has been in it. From many hospital nights and mornings, over the last three years, I have pressed my forehead up against his and gently reminded him of his internal strength. His perseverance and flat out stubbornness has helped push him to keep going. At such a young age he doesn't understand he has been fighting for his life. But thankfully his stubbornness to do everything his way has kept him here.
