(The Victoria Series 2/2: Janet / Mom)

"When I was 13 weeks pregnant, I went to the doctor to verify pregnancy. I was told that my unborn child has a 30% chance of having Down Syndrome. I was told by my doctor that the fetus may have Down Syndrome, a lifelong Disability. This would mean, the child would have a difficult life. The child would grow up into an adult being totally dependent on me. The baby may have endocrine problems, an underactive thryroid, perhaps congenital heart defects, respiratory, hearing and or vision problems, and even leukemia.

When I was 13 weeks pregnant, I was told by my child's doctor that I should consider ABORTION, because.. 'Why would I want to bring a child into the word with life long medical issues and hardship to my life?'

I decided to have my baby!

Victoria came into the world at 31 weeks into my pregnancy. She was 2 lbs and 14 inches long. She was diagnosed with Down Syndrome a week after being born with a blood test. She was in the NICU for 6 weeks before she was released to come home.

Since she has been home, she has been loved. She has had 5 surgeries to remove her Tonsils, Adenoids, and insert ear tubes. She receives services for Speech, Occupational Therapy, Adaptive PE, etc. But, she is kissed and hugged every day because she is wanted.

She is loved! She can walk and run. She has friends, helps around the house and, is able to put on her own clothes and feed herself. She loves to dance, a good swimmer and reading at her age level.

Despite morbid stories and low expectations from some medical professionals. My daughter is loved, a joy to have around and thriving.

She is my Mini Me."
