The River Series 4/11: Tripp/Brother⠀⠀⠀⠀
When River came into my world on October 3, 2014, I had no idea what to expect. At the time I was only 7-years-old and didn’t fully understand the concept of Down Syndrome. I didn’t really know how I would have to change or adjust once he was born. I also didn’t know the profound impact he would have on me and the people around him.

After being River’s brother for 7 years, I have created a deep bond with him. I've been taught important lessons and qualities, and have gotten to experience the joys of having a sibling with Down Syndrome. River has brought such a deep joy to our family and taught us so many lessons. It’s funny because in the beginning I thought I would have to be the one teaching him everything, and in some ways, I do, but in many cases, River has taught me the most sincere lessons. He has taught me patience and how to have a positive outlook on life. He has taught me how to be joyful in every moment. I speak for my whole family when I say River has made us better people. Of course there are difficulties and my patience can be really tested at times. But ultimately the struggles only make the good parts better. River brings joy wherever he goes. I think it is safe to say that many of my friends like him better than they like me. His joyful attitude is infectious and his personality is vibrant. I had no idea that River would have such a meaningful impact on me and those around me.
