The Miles Series 3/4: Anil, Dad

(THE MILES SERIES 3/4: Anil, Dad)

Miles rocks! Literally, his love for music runs deep. As a baby, Miles would be drawn to moments when I’d play the piano or guitar in the house. We’d listen to the sign language program, Signing Time, when he was an infant and he’d bop up and down to the music. One day, I picked up the guitar and made up a song that we called “Super Miles.” Miles would get on his tummy and pretend he was flying. Music moves him in a way that he’s connected to the world around him.

His taste in music doesn’t discriminate. He’ll request Twisted Sister one minute and Taylor Swift the next. We created a playlist with his fan favorites, which helps when we can’t motivate him to do something like get ready for bed. Even in school his support team quickly learned that music will push him that extra step.

For Miles’ 7th birthday, we got him a drum kit and lessons. We’re not sure if he’ll stick with it but we do know that music is life for him. Whether he’s singing, dancing along or rocking on his drums, Miles becomes absorbed in the pure joy of the moment. Whether he’s off pitch or singing the wrong lyrics, his voice is the most beautiful sound I have ever heard and I wouldn’t change a thing.
