(The Janice Series 2/4: Connie/Mom)

"I never thought I'd find myself in front of a group of 15 moms all with a child/teen with Down Syndrome getting ready for our loved ones to be part of a Quinceanera Court of Honor of our very dear friend whose family was celebrating her Quinceanera. Participants chose their hairpiece, color dress, shoes and hair do to wear for that day. Janice had been practicing for weeks a dance with her friends. When it came time to line up and take their spots, she knew exactly where to stand and the dance moves she had been practicing for this special celebration day. Janice radiated assurance in herself of who she was and her participation role in this celebration. I realize through participating in our friend’s quinceanera celebration that Janice truly enjoys gathering with friends and family. Celebrating and getting together for an event is something Janice looks forward to. I see my daughter Janice wanting and participating in activities that all other girls like, for example going out to eat, spending time with friends, and getting together with friends for outings. That day was very memorable for me as her mother, I realized that Janice one day may want a quinceanera celebration of her own."
