It's been a privilege to be able to say I'm Emiliano’s Godfather. I remember the day like it was yesterday, the nervousness running down my spine that day, not sure why. Maybe it was the fact he would be my first Godson or just my anxiety taking over for absolutely no reason, who knows? What I do know is “Emi” put his superhero cape on that day.

We’re family and everything and I love him so much. The way he is, how he learns new things every day,  when I’m with him, he always smiles except when he wakes up.

I love supporting him and no matter what he will always have a big place in my heart. I love taking him outside and playing with him on the swings. Emi has made a big change in my life.

I thought I have to be very careful with him, he probably couldn’t do the things I would want him to do but boyyy I was wrong. EMILIANO IS ONE OF THE CRAZIEST, LOVING, UNIQUE baby. I will always love him.

I know that there is something that allows us to have the bond and communication we do, something strong and bigger than us both.

I thank the giver of life for the opportunity to be his grandfather.  I ask every day for more life to spend it with him.

Emiliano always wakes up with a smile which brings the joy of living the moment with him. He is my sunshine. Ever since he came into my life, he has been the greatest joy and blessing for me. I only ask my God to give me life to continue seeing my grandson Emiliano. He is the sun of my life, the one who came to give joy to my life.  I love him with all my heart.

I’m glad to say those thoughts and my emotions have changed. While I still question why Emiliano was born with Down syndrome, I would not change him one bit. I love how much happiness his presence brings to my heart. I love his tight warm hugs and his face when it lights up with joy whenever he sees me. Most importantly, I admire his fearlessness.

At first, I was overwhelmed with feelings of ecstasy and bliss as I witnessed my first son being born. Then, in a blink of an eye, those feelings of ecstasy turned into feelings of anxiety and worry. “Emi” was having trouble breathing but he never gave up. He pushed through and eventually built up enough strength to be able to breathe and eat on his own. Little did I know this was just the start of the many great things he would do. 

Emiliano. Mi Guerrero. My warrior. He lights up any room. His smile is contagious and filled with so much joy, always. He has taught us all so much. He has taught me that he’s the boss. He’s taught me to smile more and worry less. He’s shown me a whole new world.
