The Lucky Few Foundation’s project, This Is Down Syndrome, hosted Storytelling Gatherings across the country the Summer of 2022, enabling nearly 300 people with Down syndrome, their families, friends, co-workers, neighbors and community members to share their stories about Down syndrome with the world.

In one month's time we visited five different cities, Charleston, SC (6/17-6/19); New Orleans, LA (6/25-6/26)- alongside the annual National Down Syndrome Congress Convention; Nantucket, MA (7/1-7/2); Morristown, NJ (7/8-7/10); and Nauvoo, AL (7/13-14). We slept in eight different beds, flew on nine different planes, drove hundreds of miles, and most importantly had the honor and privilege of connecting with about 200 people in the Down syndrome community.

“Stories are a communal currency of humanity.” -Tahir Shah.

We are building The Lucky Few Foundation on a foundation of belonging. By creating a platform from which we can share the stories of Down syndrome, shouting the worth of people with Down syndrome, showing the whole world the full humanity in a community of people for which their humanity has always been and continues to be in question, we are in fact inviting everyone into an opportunity to experience the “communal currency of humanity.” By doing so we believe we can truly begin to shift the Down syndrome narrative and create spaces where Everyone Belongs.
