The Lucky Few Foundation
is hitting the road this Summer!

This summer, The Lucky Few Foundation’s This Is Down Syndrome will be hosting storytelling weekends across the country, enabling 25+ families to share their stories about Down syndrome with the world. The Lucky Few Foundation knows how important storytelling is in building real connections between real people, so the Avis family is traveling through several states in June and July to personally collect the stories of more than thirty people with Down syndrome and the people who love them.

What is a Storytelling Weekend?

Each storytelling weekend includes a Friday night meet-and-greet dinner for participating families to connect with each other and the Avises, followed by a Saturday or Sunday professional photoshoot and storytelling coaching with Heather Avis. All content is professionally edited and featured on social media and on The Lucky Few Foundation’s website, creating an archive of everyday people with DS and those closest to them. This collection of stories aims to shift narratives by showing the world the good and true story of life with Down syndrome.

How to participate in storytelling weekend.

  • Host

As host, you will be the local point person for TLF. With support from TLFF, you would secure a venue for dinner and the photoshoots (have a spacious house and love throwing parties? Know the perfect local restaurant for big groups? Great!), scout out potential photographers, and coordinate group members during the photo shoots. You would also aid in gathering families interested in sharing their stories (if you’re a part of a local DS support group, this could be the easy part!). Worried that some of this sounds great but other parts seem tricker for you? No worries! TLFF is ready to help.

  • Photographer

Love capturing beautiful moments with beautiful stories? Have a knack for identifying and emulating a particular photographer’s style? Searching for a way to utilize your talent while contributing to a meaningful cause? Let us know!

  • Storyteller

Know an amazing person with Down syndrome and want to shout their worth? Excited to gather your loved ones to share their experiences after a Down syndrome diagnosis? Apply to share your stories at one of our storytelling events!

  • Sponsor

The Lucky Few Foundation is committed to sharing as many stories about life with Down syndrome as possible, but we can’t do it alone. If your business is interested in collaborating with TLFF to share real, diverse, and inclusive stories of Down syndrome, contact us!

  • Donor

DescripWant to contribute but don’t have the time or capacity to participate in storytelling weekends? Have a strong and supportive community that would love to encourage TLFF’s storytelling mission? Every gift helps fund the empowering and narrative-shifting experience for families to share their good and true stories of Down syndrome. Donate today or fundraise on TLFF’s behalf!tion goes here
